Coming Up Sunday, February 5, 2012
Looks like its going to be a busy morning.
One of my old broadcasting friends, Stu Ellis, will be with me during the 8 o'clock hour. Stu & I were both at another radio station, back in its heyday. Interesting chap, Stu. Probably has 14 degrees from U of I, has travelled the world covering agriculture or other news, spends most his time with ag-related communications, and this Sunday he'll be talking about leaving an "Agri-Legacy". (In the Insurance business - which I am - we refer to it as Estate Planning.) Attorneys, tax accounts and insurance advisors are often called together to help a family plan what will happen to the farm when the current owner hits the bridge. Sadly, without a plan, much of it may have to be sold to pay the taxes. Planning minimizes the hit. There's a conference coming up late February to address that topic, and the conference will be Stu's topic Sunday.
Nine o'clock hour: a chap named Joris John Heise will be in the studio with me. He's a retired schoolteacher from Ohio, now lives in Central Illinois, and often serves as a substitute teacher in the Clinton school system. He's also a writer. Writes sonnets. Sent me an email with page after page of sonnets. Subject matter, at first glance, is the school classroom. Then when you think about it, the subject matter seems to be society. The system. The mindset. Where we are, who we are, what we are. I look forward to meeting him.
Ten o'clock hour: Showtime once again. I have a request for "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers". At first, I thought that was not a Broadway show, but rather, a motion picture. Turns out I'm almost right. It started as a motion picture, was adapted to a stage musical - which ran for FOUR PERFORMANCES, then closed. If I can find a recording of the music from the motion picture, I'll play it Sunday. If not, it'll be Ethel Merman in "Annie Get Your Gun".
Eleven O'clock hour: A couple of great guests, on the line with me. First, a popular speaker, funnyman and author and business consultant, Andy Masters. His newest book is just being released this month. He has sent me an autographed copy of it, which I'll be giving away Sunday - the name of the book is "Kiss Your Customer", and it talks about the importance of customer service to the business process. You're going to enjoy this one!
And later in the hour, Dr. Benjamin Carson will be on the line with me, to talk about his new book, "America the Beautiful: Rediscoveing What Made This Nation Great". Dr. Carson is a brain surgeon. Grew up in Detroit's inner city. His life story was the basis for the motion picture "Gifted Hands", which starred Cuba Gooding. So you automatically think that health care will be the topic - and it will. But thats not all. We'll talk about Society, because thats what his new book is about. Can America remain the Pinnacle nation? Amongst the economic despair, cultural degradation, waning moral compass, fixation on pop culture....can America remain the Pinnacle nation? Heavy stuff......Sunday morning.
Email continues to be a source of good stuff (and some bad). For instance...Ed & Arlene have been married for many years. One day she asked Ed to "describe me". Ed looked at her slowly, thought a while....and said "You're A,B,C,D,E,F,G,H,I,J,K......" Arlene, seemingly pleased, said "what does that mean"?. Ed said "Adorable, Beautiful, Cute, Delightful, Elegant, Foxy, Gorgeous, Hot". And smiling, she asked "...and what about the I, J, K?".
He said "I'm Just Kidding".
Ed's left eye is still swollen, but the doctor has informed him that he's likely to see things much more clearly in the future.
Keep the emails coming. I use them on the air. Its live radio. Anything can happen. Most radio stations are recorded/automated on Sunday morning, but I'm there live. And usually awake.
Oh...did I tell you about the baseball catcher who got married? Promised to love, honor and squat. Or the scientist....who invented a potion to grow hair? It was so strong it'd grow hair on a billiard ball. Didn't work though....slowed the game down too much. And don't forget........where ever you go - there you are! See you Sunday.
